WEDDINGS AT ZION

The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. -Genesis 2:23-25

Are you planning a traditional church wedding? Are you planning to have a rehearsal dinner for your wedding party? As a rule of thumb, always choose a beautiful location for the wedding ceremony. You generally reap what you sow.  In that regard, for beautiful wedding pictures the wedding location is very important. This wedding page is designed with your special wedding day in mind and gives you a glimpse of what to expect of the church and yourself. It is important for all persons wishing to schedule a wedding at Zion to read the following wedding policy guidelines and agree to abide by them.

I.  A Wedding at Zion is a Sacred Ceremony

Here at Zion, we take seriously the sacred vow of holy matrimony and honor it as marriage between husband and wife as established by God uniting Adam and Eve in holy matrimony on the morning of creation.  We feel one should not enter this commitment naive.  Therefore, if you wish to be married, we require a minimum of two (2), thirty minute premarital counseling sessions between the bride and groom.

II. Zion: A Community-Connected Congregation

We are a Christian faith-based congregation and warmly open our doors to all couples seeking to be wed in a Christian ministry context and define marriage as marriage between a man and a woman. Therefore, as an intentionally community-connected congregation, the general public is encouraged to use Zion for the purpose of exchanging wedding vows, participating in church worship and becoming full members of our religious body.

Weddings may be held in any setting. However, the choice of the church sanctuary is traditionally the most desired location and has some very distinct implications, including protection from inclement weather conditions.

If you are planning to exchange vows at Zion of Philadelphia, we look forward to professionally serving you and reviewing our wedding solutions with you. You will want to plan your wedding as early as possible so that the use of the church is arranged without conflict.  A general rule of thumb to secure your wedding date is three to six months in advance.

III. Securing your Wedding Date

If you wish, you may hire you own wedding planner. However, the wedding date is set in consultation with the Church Pastor who serves as wedding officiant for all church weddings at Zion.  If you wish to wed at Zion, reserving the church for your wedding day is a four step process that includes the following.

1. To secure your wedding date at Zion, please contact the church at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , Attn: Wedding Planner. Please provide the date and time of your wedding day request and any additional wedding requirements such as a need to reserve the fellowship hall for your wedding party’s rehearsal dinner and whether you wish the pastor as wedding officiant to attend.  The Wedding Coordinator will contact you promptly with availability.  Don't delay. Secure your dates early.

2. Wait on official confirmation of the wedding date and time by email.

3. Once your date and time has been confirmed, you will receive a church request form/rental agreement and a request for your non-refundable deposit. Please sign and return your wedding request form and deposit within (10) business days to Zion Baptist Church of Philadelphia, 3600 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19140.

4. We will officially confirm your wedding day reservation upon receipt of your wedding deposit by email.  Failure to return the request form within a timely manner specified will result in your not being allowed the use of the church.

IV. The Wedding Checklist

In addition to setting your wedding date and securing the church and minister to officiate, your wedding checklist should include the marriage license, bridal registry, stylist appointment, special wedding jewelry, the maid of honor and best man, bridesmaids, groomsmen, wedding dress fitting and pick up, tuxedo fittings and pick up, wedding photographer, wedding videographer, wedding invitations, wedding decor, runner, wedding flowers, unity candle, wedding rings, the wedding cake, wedding reception particulars and musicians if applicable.

This wedding checklist is not an exhaustive listing. It only highlights the most crucial issues involved and should be monitored weekly leading to your big day. In addition to planning your wedding day, you should also pray for your wedding that it will be blessed by God.

V. The Bridal Registry

Department stores are up to you. Your wedding day is your special day to turn heads, look radiant, ravishing and all the rage.  From our entire church family, congratulations on your wedding day and we hope you will allow us to assist you with your wedding planning needs.
